Note: unlike translation, for which simple pricing methods apply that ensure full transparency, using a per-word pricing system seems too simplistic and misleading.

Indeed, most non-professional translators whose mother tongue differs from the target language are often proficient in the language, especially regarding technical or specialised aspects of their field, but do not necessarily have a clear idea of how things should or should not be said in a language different to their own. Amateur authors of translations tend to under-estimate the work to be done.  Unfortunately, it is not rare to see that for a document already translated by a third party, proofreading it takes just as much time as a professional translation from scratch would have taken.
